Our History
Aida Opera Candies is a family business established in 1947 in San Francisco, California by Anthony Basques Sr., master confectioner.
Grandpa Tony was a candy maker by day and a professional musician by night. He named the store after his favorite opera, and his love of music has inspired the chocolate clef notes, violins and guitars available in our store today.
Anthony Basques Jr. (Grandpa Tony, too) carries on the candy making tradition, using the same family recipes, plus a few of his own.
We feature old fashioned rocky road with fresh marshmallow (raspberry, too), buttery peanut brittle and crunchy honeycomb (a thin, crispy molasses mixture dipped in chocolate).
The family has extended the traditional candy and gift shop to its present location in Burlingame, California – 15 miles south of San Francisco.
This unique confectionery shop offers quality candies from many time honored hand-crafted recipes. We pride ourselves in offering customized services and ship throughout the United States.
Family operated for four generations – serving loyal customers and their families who have long treasured Grandpa Tony's sweet confections.
